Childrens behaviors are mainly affected by their parent, so their behaviors whether it is good or bad depend on their parents action. Some parents are not careful about how to raise their children, and then they misbehave with their parents and with everyone. I believe that parents are the only persons who are responsible of their childrens behaviors, because children always obey them. Cruelty make the child behave wrongly as a reaction , and this cruelty includes two types either beating or insulting , and both types are wrong ways. I follow directions very well and do what I am told while still trying to infuse my own creativity into the food I cook. My strongest point in the kitchen is my ability to use the equipment for its intended purposes. I work well with melon/cheeseballers, whisks, blenders, pans, and especially cutlery. I use only the finest Hitori Hanzo cutlery and take the utmost care in cutting, dicing, mincing, and chopping with speed and precision while maintaining a safe cutting environment. When it comes to the speed of productivity, you can find no one better. In my mind, my most profitable skill would have to be my enthusiasm and willingness to try new things. Cooking is a skill that can never be perfected no matter how hard you try but the knowledge I want to obtain will help me in the kitchen more than anything else. The CIA is such a prestigious school that I would be honored to attend. I promise to be a student who will live up to its high expectations.

It will only last for four years, and all the energy you put into impressing the cool kids because at the end of your four years of high school you may never see them again. Soon after that you will be in college, with new people. Depending on what you choose to do, you could be trying to impress your peers all over again, or trying to find people who will help you succeed. ? Don’t lose yourself in crowd of the cool kids, or the druggies because if you get involved with them, they’ll just pull you down. You won’t reach your goals. When you want to do your homework, study, or something that will help you succeed in your dreams, they’ll just make you feel bad about yourself, exposing you to drugs or drama. It’s not worth trying to be cool by doing drugs, or fitting in with rude and fake people. Your real friends, the people who will help you succeed, won’t make you do drugs. Miss Vineeta Girdoniya,p.g. college Narsinghpur,M.P., India,E.mail Address:ranugirdoniya@gmail.com Introduction: All the ponds selected for this study are from a village named as Baraheta situated near district Narsinghpur.These all are highly polluted due to disposal of sewage containing fecal matters and some detergents also.Most of the aquatic systems of varying characters worldwide recieves regular inputs of nontreated sewage containing various chemical, detergents and organic matter, which results in increase of total nutrient concentration. This causes the development of microbial, algal and higher aquatic plant species which further results in eutrophication (Hinesly and Jones,1990). Eutrophication is a natural process, but if it occurs uninterruptedly, it results in excessive deficiency of oxygen in water.Thus anaerobic organisms favoured more and more at the expense of aerobic organisms (Mengel and Kirkby,1996). Our present investigation is to evaluate the effect of disposal of non treated sewage on chemical properties like COD, BOD, DO, and Alkalinity of pond water. All the experiments are established two times , first in the month of september(2009) and second time in the month of february(2010). Material and methods COD Test Determination of Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) Iin selected saple of water: This is determined by refluxing the sample with an excess of potassium dichromate in a highly acid condition and estimating by titration the amount of dichromate used. With a reducing agent like ferrous ammonium sulphate. Organic matter(CHO)+Cr2O7+H+2Cr+3+CO2+H2O 6Fe+Cr2O7+14H+6Fe+ +2Cr+3+7 2H2O Interference- Chlorides -1 mg/l Cl- exerts 0.23 mg/l of COD. Therefore correction as mg/litre Cl-*0.23 should be applied by substracting the COD of Cl- from the total COD. Nitrites exert COD of 1.1 mg/mg N. Limitations- (1) Amino nitrogen gets converted to ammonia nitrogen. (2) All organic compounds with few exceptions (e.g.aromatic hydrocarbons,straight aliphatic compounds and pyridine) are oxidized by this procedure. Requirements:Chemical reagents- (1)Standard potassium dichromate 0.25 N (2)Concentrated H2SO4 (3)Ferroin indicator. (4)Catalysts-Silver sulphate(for 8 straight chain aliphatic compounds) and mercuric sulphate(for Cl-). (5)Sulphamic acid-Required only if interference of NO2 is to be eliminated.Add 10 mg sulphamic acid /mg NO N,if present,in the refluxing flask. Also add in blank in this case. Procedure- (1)Place 50 ml sample in round bottom refluxing flask of 300 ml capacity with ground glass joint . (2)Add 50 ml of distilled water to dilute it. (3)Add gently 25 ml of K2Cr2O7 solution and 75 ml of concentrated H2SO4 and shake. (4)Attach refluxing condenser and reflux the mixture for 2 hours. (5)After refluxing wash the condenser with distilled water. (6)Cool the mixture and dilute it with distilled water. (7)Titrate with ferrous ammonium sulphate(0.25 N) with ferroin indicator till the red colour appears after the intermediary green colour. Reactions: CnHaOb+cCr2/O7 2- +8H+ a+8C n CO2+ -2H2O+2cCr3+ Where,c=2/3n+a/6-b/3. Calculations: COD mg/l=(A-B)N*8000 V Where, A=Vol. in ml ferrous ammonium sulphate for blank B=Vol. in ml ferrous ammonium sulphate for blank. V=Volume of sample. N=Normality of ferrous ammonium sulphate. Result: (1) In first sample of water the value of COD determined is 11.4 mg/l., and 13.5 mg/l. (2)In second sample of pond water COD determined is 13.5 mg/l, and 14.9 mg/l. (3)In third sample of water COD determined is 13.00 mg/l., and 15.5 mg/l. (4)The value of COD determined in fourth sample of water is 16.8 mg/l., and 19.00 mg/l. BOD Test Test to determine Biochemical Oxygen Demand(BOD): This is determind by measuring the loss in DO in the sample of water after incubating it for 5 days at 20 degree centigrade It is expressed as mg/l 5BOD 20degree centigrade. Requirements: (1)Specially prepaired BOD glass bottles provided with exactly fitting ground glass stoppers and surrounding well to accomodate 5 ml of water so as to exclude exchange of gases. (2)BOD incubator working at 20 degree centigrade. (3)Chemical Reagents: (a)Distilled water of highest purity and thoroughly aerated so as to saturate with DO at a lowered temperature of 20 degree centigrade. (b)Phosphate buffer solution. (c)Magnesium sulphate solution. (d)Calcium chloride solution. (e)Ferric chloride solution. (f)Dilution water Preparation of dilution water: (1)Place required 1 litre of distilled water at 20 degree centigrade. (2)Add 1 ml of phosphate buffer solution. (3)Add 1 ml of magnesium sulphate solution. (4)Add 1 ml of calcium chloride solution in it. (5)Add 1 ml of ferric chloride solution in this solution of distilled water. (6)Add 10 ml of settled sewage in this solution of distilled water to seed the dilution water. Procedure: (1)Add 300 ml of sample water in BOD bottle. (2)Fill this bottle completely withdilution water. (3)All concentration should be in duplicate. (4)Keep one bottle of each concentrate in the incubator for 5 days at 20 degree centigrade. (5)Subject the duplicate of that concentration to DO determination on the same day.That will be 0-day DO. (6)After five days,subject the duplicate bottles of all concentrations to the DOdeterminations.It will be 5-day DO. (7)Similarly put one or two bottles for finding out the depletion of DO in seeded dilution water only. (8)Find out the difference in between 0-day DO and 5-day DO values. (9)Chemical reactions taking place: CnHaobNc +(n+a/4-b/2-3/4C)O2-CO2+(a/2-3/2C)H2O+NH3. Calculations:- 5-BOD mg/litre=Initial DO(mg/l) 5-day DO(mg/l) Result: (1)In first sample of water the BOD determined is 13 mg/litre and 16.5 mg/l. (2)The BOD in second sample of water is 12.5 mg/litre and 16 mg/l. (3)The BOD in third sample of water is 11 mg/l. and 14.5 mg/l. (4)The Bod in fourth sample of water detected is 13.5 mg/l. and 17 mg/l. DO test:- To detect the amount of dissolved oxygen in selected four samplesof pond water and two samples of potable water. 1-Fill the given DO bottle with sample of water. 2-Add three drops of magnese ii sulphate solution in DO bottle filled with water. 3-Add three drops of alkaline potassium iodide. 4-Add eight drops of phosphoric acid in the solution. 5-Take 10 ml of solution in a test tube and add 2 drops of starch solution. 6-Solution turned black. 7-Titrate with sodium thio sulphate solution. 8-Calculate the amount of dissolved oxygen by using obtained readings of titration, with the help of following formula: DO=Volume of hypo(sodium thio sulphate solution) consumed*20 Result: The amount of dissolved oxygen in pond water samples and potable water samples is: 1:Amount of DO in first water sample is 15.00 mg/l. and 9.9 mg/l. 2:Amount of DO in second water sample is 14.00 mg/l. and 9.0 mg/l. 3:DO amount in this sample of water is 12.00 mg/l. and 8.2 mg/l. 4:DO amount in fourth sample of water is 10.00 mg/l. and 7.9 mg/l. Result and discussion: As shown in the table, results obtained as a result of our investigation, it is clear that the disposal of non treated sewage in water bodies, increases the chemical oxygen demand in water due to presence of various chemicals in them. It also increases first DO of water bodies due to development of aquatic plants in high nutrient containing water.But when more and more organic matter diposited in water bodies development and death of plants occurs in them then for the decomposition of organic matters various bacterial species develops in the water.But as a result of death and decay of organisms various gases evolved from water and high amount of oxygen is required for this purpose which further results in increased biological oxygen demand and an considerable decrease in Dissolved oxygen of water as a result of eutrophication. Even though water was used to wash some of the mixture stuck in the beaker into the filter paper, not all of the mixture was filtered. The mixture stuck in the beaker and was not filtered would have decreased the percent yield. Finally, when the mixture was being filtered, some of the PbI2 precipitate passed through the filter paper and went into the filtrate. The filtrate was not filtered again, so some of the PbI2 was not calculated into the final mass of PbI2 produced. This would have decreased the percent yield as well. All the above would have contributed to the fact that the percent yield was 3.1% lower than the predicted yield. Conclusion The results from the experiment showed that the percent yield of PbI2 is 96.9%, which is rather accurate. However, due to random errors and the qualitative results shown above, the percent yield is 3.1% lower than the predicted yield. Limitations and Improvements If I could do the experiment again, As some of the precipitate was stuck onto the glass rod and could not be removed by using my fingers, I could have just used a little bit of water to wash it down back into the mixture. This would have decrease the difference in the percentage between the predicted yield and the percentage yield. Even though water was used to wash some of the mixture into the filter funnel, there was still some mixture stuck in the beaker. The process of using water to wash down the mixture could have been repeated over and over until all the mixture is in the filter funnel. After filtrating the mixture once, some of the PbI2 crystals went through the filter paper and into the filtrate in the conical flask. To make sure all the PbI2 precipitate is counted towards the percent yield, the filtrate could have been filtrated again at least 2 more times. This would have increased the mass of PbI2, which would have made the percent yield closer to 100%.

I remember a time, when I would actually sit down and write out an assignment, with a pencil and paper before going to the computer and typing it. Those days are long gone. Now when I have a writing assignment to do, I simply go to my computer desk, sit down, and begin to type. The technologies that once were have become something of the past, and we are faced with these high powered machines that connect to the World Wide Web in a matter of minutes, or link you to anyone across the United States for a one on one instant message conversation. Within a ten year time period, we have become a very cyber centered society, and I dont expect a change any time soon. The purpose of this paper, is to explain how cyberculture has changed the way that we think about writing, and ourselves in particular as writers. As young adults, it is always instilled in us, that there is a right way to do something and a wrong way to do something. I was taught growing up to sit down and write out a draft for my paper(s) along with an outline before getting started. That was the right way. Doing it this way was supposed to provide the main idea and key points that I was going to use in my paper. Now 4 years later, I find that when I have to write a paper, I donwrite anything out. I sit at the computer and let it flow. I am not saying that this is the right way of doing things, its just my way. A way that has, for the most part worked for 4 years I try to think of myself as a very objective person. Just because I can appreciate all that a computer can do, does not mean that I do not see any problems with it. Many people argue that just sitting down and typing your assignments with no previous drafts wont work because people tend to think faster than they can write. This is true. But I feel that just as easily as you can forget to type a word, you can forget to write it. The number of international students enrolled in U. S. institutions has grown by 23 percent in the last five years. This is because the international community recognizes education in the U. S. All credit is given to University administrators who make sure that the courses students take are rigorous and prepares them for the real world ahead of them. The only problem is that Universities make students take some courses that are irrelevant to their major, thereby wasting precious time and money. Engineering is one of the most popular majors offered in United States’ Universities. It is a gateway to job opportunities but most Universities waste student’s time by forcing them to take classes that are not engineering related during their first two years of college. In most Universities, students majoring in Engineering have to take classes like fine art, government, history etc. Instead of giving these students specific courses that would prepare them for the rigorous work of engineering and reduce the time they would spend in school, Universities rather choose to introduce them to broader aspect of college, forcing them to take classes they do not need and increasing the time, they spend in college. Higher Institutions increase the time and courses college students have to take, because the more classes they take the more money the University pockets. They use this method to rip students off, thereby making college expenses ridiculously high and almost unpayable for some students. Education is not supposed to be costly, but student’s bank accounts are constantly punished by greed and bad decision making by University officials. This is why most American students abstain from furthering their educations in higher institutions after high school. The cost scares some of them, and they do not see the need to spend all their money on education. Universities should not scare Americans away from Higher Institutions by making them take classes that would dry up their bank accounts and waste their time. Instead they should give them the privilege of going to intern after high school and come back to take only the courses they need for their major. This saves students valuable time, money, and at the same time makes college more attractive to those Americans who have shunned Higher education because of the cost. When students are given the opportunity of interning before they choose their path in life, they not only get an idea of what they will wake up to every morning, but they also gain experience. This makes the courses and classes they would take later on a lot easier and understandable to them. The experience they gain from interning gives them a sense of direction on whether to continue in that career or if they should do something more profiting and interesting to them. . In order for us to get more Americans into college and reduce the competition coming from the international community, higher institutions need to make college more affordable and more meaningful for students. To make Universities affordable, students should be allowed to do all those classes that are required but relevant to a student’s major in high school. After graduation, students should have the opportunity of choosing between being an intern in their desired field for a year, before registering for that major, or going the normal route of wasting time taking classes they do not need.

A Lesson Before Dying: an Examination of a Prodigious Storyteller Essay

A good novel entertains the reader. An excellent novel entertains and enlightens the reader. Set in a Cajun community in the late 1940’s, A Lesson Before Dying is a heart-warming tale of injustice, acceptance and redemption. A Lesson Before Dying by Earnest J. Gaines is an excellent novel. Not only does Gaines inform the reader, he entertains will his effective storytelling. His use of symbolism, voice and stylistic devices keeps the reader enticed to the very last page. One way Gaines is an effective storyteller is his use of symbolism. The first symbol to present itself in A Lesson Before Dying is the hog. During trial for robbery and first degree murder, Jefferson’s attorney attempts to get him off by dehumanizing him and denouncing his intelligence, claiming he is incapable of murder because he doesn’t have a â€Å"modicum of intelligence† (Gaines 7). He even goes so far as to compare Jefferson to a hog: â€Å"Why, I would just as soon put a hog in th e electric chair as this† (Gaines 8). This statement drives the central conflict. The hog, a filthy animal, represents the way the whites treated and regarded the blacks; as dirty, unintelligent and inferior animals, whose sole purpose was to work for them. The second symbol to appear in the novel is food. In A Lesson Before Dying, Tante Lou uses food as a means of affection. When Grant tells her he is going into town to eat, he says â€Å"Nothing could have hurt her more when I said I was not going to eat her food† (Gaines 24). Miss Emma brings Jefferson his favourite foods while in prison, to try and comfort him and show him he is loved. When Jefferson refuses to eat, Miss Emma takes it straight to heart and is greatly distressed. Grant even tells Jefferson to eat for Miss Emma, to show that he loves her. In addition to symbolizing love, food also symbolizes Jefferson’s humanity in the novel. Jefferson, taking being called a hog as a great emotional blow, refuses to eat, claiming â€Å"That’s for youmans† (Gaines 83). It is only when Jefferson reconnects with his humanity that he agrees to eat. The final symbol in A Lesson Before Dying is the notebook. After many attempts to reach Jefferson—from Grant, Miss Emma and Reverend Amborse, Grant gives him a notebook to write his thoughts in. In this notebook, Jefferson reflects upon life and death. He writes to Grant about all the injustices he has faced—saying â€Å"it look like the lord just work for wite folks† (Gaines 227) and the his impending fate. The notebook represents Jefferson’s acceptance of his unjust life and his newfound sense of self-worth. In addition, the notebook also shows the bond which formed between Grant and Jefferson. By writing to Grant, he finally accepted Grant’s guidance and showed that Grant made a difference in his short life. As seen through these examples, Gaines uses many symbols to effectively tell his story. The second reason Gaines is an effective story-teller, is his utilization of voice. Most of a Lesson Before Dying is conveyed through stream of consciousness. Narrated by Grant Wiggins, much of the novel is dedicated to Grant’s internal monologue: â€Å"What am I doing? Am I reaching them at all? They are acting exactly as the old men did earlier. They are fifty year younger, maybe more, but doing the same thing those old men who never attended school a day in their lives. Is it just a vicious circle? Am I doing anything?† (Gaines 62) Another way Gaines utilizes voice is through his use of Cajun dialect. Rather than having the dialogue written in proper English form, Gaines presents it exactly how the characters speak: â€Å"I didn’t raise no hog, and I don’t want no hog to go set in that chair. I want a man to set in that chair, Mr. Henri† (Gaines 20). The final form of voice used is epistolary voice. All of Chapter 29 is told through Jefferson’s diary, directed to Grant, to convey Jefferson’s last days on earth. For these reasons, Gaines’ is an effective storyteller because he uses eclectic and creative voice techniques to give the novel a feeling authenticity. The final technique Grant uses to effectively tell the story of A Lesson Before Dying, is stylistic devices. The first device used is repetition. For example, the first time Grant goes to visit Jefferson he remarks â€Å"You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? his eyes said. They were big brown eyes, the whites too reddish† (Gaines 73) and then, he again says â€Å"His eyes mocked me. They were big brown eyes, the whites too reddish† (Gaines 74). Another device used is charactonym. The character Paul is a perfect example of Gaines’ use of charactonym. Being one of the first white men in the story to accept the black people, it could be said that he is so named after Paul the Apostle, who â€Å"was one of the most influential early Christian missionaries† (Livingstone, and Cross 1840). The final stylistic device used paradox. For example, when Grant describes Jefferson’s trial, he says â€Å"I was not there, yet I was there† (Gaines 1). All in all, Gaines uses many efficient stylistic devices to tell his story in an effective manner. Gaines’ ability to effectively tell a story—through symbolism, voice and other stylistic devices, has created a highly stimulating and moving read. Industrial Revolution Essays - Rockefeller Family, Gilded Age Industrial Revolution Corporate development during the Industrial Revolution was made in part by entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs were the people who took responsibility for the organization and operation of a new business venture. These business men often risked the initial money for setting up different types of businesses. With the risk of large sums of money, some of these entrepreneurs made enormous profits. Two major entrepreneurs of American history are John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie. The Standard Oil Company founded by John D. Rockefeller and the U.S. Steel Company founded by Andrew Carnegie, both were two corporations that had a great impact on the lives of most Americans. The Standard Oil Company and U.S. Steel Company were made successful in different ways due to the actions of their different owners. The companies differed in their labor relations, market control, and structural organization. In the steel industry, Carnegie developed a system known as vertical integration. This means that he simply cut out the middle man. Carnegie bought his own iron and coal mines, because using independent companies was unreliable, cost too much and were inefficient. By doing this he now was able to undersell his steel making competitors, because they had to pay the competitors they went through to get the raw materials. Unlike Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller integrated his oil business from top to bottom, his distinctive innovation in movement of American industry was horizontal. This meant he followed one product through all its stages. For example, Rockefeller controlled the oil when it was drilled, through the refining stage, and he maintained control over the refining process turning it into gasoline. Although these two powerful men used two different methods of management their businesses were still very successful (Conlin, 425-426). Entrepreneurs or better known "Robber Barons" like Andrew Carnegie, "the steel king," and John D. Rockefeller, "the oil baron," exercised their genius in devising ways to circumvent competition. Although, Carnegie inclined to be tough-fisted in business, he was not a monopolist and disliked monopolistic trusts. John D. Rockefeller came to dominate the oil industry by bringing a new energy and overwhelming strategy into his business. With one upward stride after another he organized the Standard Oil Company, which was the nucleus of the great trust that was formed. Rockefeller showed little mercy in his business dealings. He believed primitive savagery prevailed in the jungle world of business, where only the fittest survived (Social Darwinism). He pursued the policy of "ruin or rule." Rockefeller's oil monopoly did turn out a superior product at a relatively cheap price. Rockefeller believed in ruthless business, Carnegie did not, yet they both had the most successful comp! anies in their industries (The American Pageant, pages 515-518). Rockefeller treated his customers and competitors in the same manner that Andrew Carnegie treated his workers: cruel and harsh. The Standard Oil Company desperately wanted every possible company to buy their products. For example Standard Oil used ruthless tactics when Rockefeller threatened to start his own chain of grocery stores and put local merchants out of business if they did not buy oil from Standard Oil Company. Carnegie dealt with his workers with the same cold lack of diplomacy and consideration. Carnegie would encourage an unfriendly competition between two of his workers and he goaded them into outdoing one another. Some of his employees found working under Carnegie unbearable. These rivalries became so important to the employees that some did not talk to each other for years (McCloskkey, page 145). Although both Carnegie and Rockefeller created extremely successful companies, they both used unscrupulous methods in some aspect of their corporation building to ! get to the top. The success of the Standard Oil Company and U.S. Steel company was credited to the fact that their owners ran them with great authority. In this very competitive time period, many new businesses were being formed. Over the last years until its initial public offering in 2006, RSE has been faring well in the UK Stock Exch ange market -- trading at 233p per share, and maintaining a decent profit margin. It had also significantly improved its brand image -- the company is increasingly acknowledged. In fact, its owner and founder, Richard Shaw, was recognized as the â€Å"Businessman of the Year† by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in 2000. However, like any other businesses, RSE is not spared from the threat of the economic crisis. Along with this, company is also experiencing serious problems in its business processes primarily in the Marketing Division. In addition, there is also an ongoing problem with regard to the integration and information linkage between the domestic and foreign offices, as well as across the major divisions in the organization. With these issues, this paper seeks to accomplish three things: (1) to report the current status of RSE’s business processes and its emerging business needs, (2) to present detailed information systems solutions that would addre ss such needs, and (3) to explain the relevance of implementing information systems and Internet applications to current business operations of RSE. 1.1 Background (Current Business Processes) Richard Shaw Enterprises (RSE) was founded in the year 1994, and was named after its owner Richard Saw. The company went public by the year 2006, and it has remained competitive in spite of the recession, and the high costs involved with the organization's trading operations. At present, RSE is situated in different locations, namely: Maidstone (Kent), Rome, Paris, as well as in Lagos, Nigeria. It is currently operating in two main trading strands: (1) buy and sell, and customization of shop fixtures, fittings, business machines, and other company equipment, and (2) auctioning of bankrupt office equipment, fixtures, and fittings. To top it all, RSE is equipped with technologically innovative information systems. In order to assist marketing managers in carrying out their functions, particularl y in closely monitoring product selling and distribution, the collateral reporting systems was installed. Moreover, in 1995, a computerized system for the payment of staff salaries was also installed. This was followed by the computerization of sales and purchase order processing in the year 2003. 2.
